My Shiny New T-Mobile iPhone
Tuesday December 18th 2007, 21:37 pm

Thanks to some super clever geeks in the Czech Republic I have a UK iPhone working with a T-Mobile sim, I got a nasty cut on the knuckle of my left index finger, but it was worth it!

So how did I get it working with T-Mobile? I bought a registered UK iPhone from Ebay, that meant the phone would work with any O2 sim without me being held into an 18 month contract. I then bought a TurboSim from a tech guy at work who managed to get hold of a whole batch of them before Bladox, the company who manufacture them, ran out of stock. The TurboSim tricks your phone into thinking your sim is a valid O2 sim, so you can use any UK network with your iPhone.

The process of fitting the TurboSim was a real pain the ass, first of all you have to insert something into this tiny hole on the top of the iphone to get the Sim holder to eject. Im not the darn your socks, turn up your pants, make your own dresses kind of girl. I dont own a sowing kit so I didnt have a needle or pin to hand and I was too eager to pop to the shop to buy one, so I used an unfolded staple. In hindsighr it would have been easier to go buy a pin, as the stable kept bending, I think it would be less of a battle to try and break into a car with a wire coathanger.

Sadly this isn't where the fun ends, you then need to cut off a chunk of your sim, the TurboSim sits over your normal sim and the microchip needs to sit where the plastic part of your sim is otherwise it wont fit in the iPhone. This took about 20 minutes, and almost cost me a finger. I'm sure for those of you who spent your teens making model airplanes it will be a breeze, we wont go into my mispent youth just now though!

It was all worth it though, and here you have it, my happy little T-Mobile iPhone!

Is this a sex story or a explaination on how you 'fixed' your phone ? ;)
As a man, I think i just read : Ass, insert, tiny hole....LOL

I hope it doesn't brick on you. Apple has been nasty about having updates that brick the phone if its not being used on the AT&T network here in the states, i wonder if they're taking similar measures over there as well.

Besides, there are much better devices out there than the iPhone (and for a lot less too). I'd kill if anyone tried to take my Blackberry Curve from me and replace it with an iPhone...

That's awesome. I was going to get an iPhone with T-mobile here in the US, but then iPod touch came out, so I got that and stuck to my T-Mobile Dash :)

I don't think it's cheating anyone, in the UK we have strong anti-competitor laws, there is already rumors that T-Mobile / Orange will be taking action against Apple for not making the phone available on their network.

As for a special price, the whole thing cost me £500, nothing special about that! ;)

As far as I remember, phone companies do give such phones at special price just because you have to sit in contract with them for that period (in this case 18 months) and pay the monthly bill (i believe thats the case, or at least thats how they play the game here in Italy).

Now, cracking the iphone and being able to use it with a different sim card, wouldn\'t that be called \"cheating the phone company\" ? Not bashing, just trying to put you aware. At least here in italy if I did something similar (and publicly said I did I might get in trouble).

P.S. thats a heck of a neat iphone

I still don`t understand, T-Mobile dosen`t have iPhone available? And does the iPhone work on other networks also? Let`s say If I buy one could it work on Wind Italy, or back my home Orange Romania? Let me know.. as I`ll like one too :)
