Resignation Letter : First Draft
Tuesday December 11th 2007, 11:54 pm

I was reminded today that I only have 8 days left until I resign so I decided to work on my resignation letter ...

Dear Ms ******

As required by my contract of employment, I hereby give you 3 months notice of my intention to resign.

I feel that I can no longer be part of a company that is slowly zapping every ounce of creatively I have left in me. If I continued to work here you will need to promote me to Project Manager so I, like yourself, can spend my days booking in none existing meetings so I can get my hair cut, do a spot of shopping, go for a massage or take a nice stroll around Covent Gardens.

Don't get me wrong, the last few years have been a great, my portfolio is outstanding and I have met some friends for life. I was suprised though, that after carefully reading through my contract to find that my expected duties didn’t include being your shoulder to cry on, had I been made aware of this fact earlier I wouldn't have suffered those endless lunches listening to you drone on about your boyfriends and how all men are bastards.

I understand that my notice period is 3 months but I would to have a fresh start to 2008. Therefore, I would like to request that you waive this notice period and relieve me of my duties immediately. Please be assured that I will do all I can to assist in the smooth transfer of my responsibilities, both professionally and as your 'rent a friend'.

I wish the company every good fortune and I would like to thank you for having me as part of your team.

Yours sincerely,

Toni Turner

Hmmmm ... it may need some minor alterations ... ;)

Hi Toni - is this of interest to you? If not, just ignore and apologies. If you are, contact me on my email.

"Do you have an idea for an internet company or software and need advice on funding, marketing, research? Know someone who does? We are looking for potential candidates for a potential programme on the subject . We are at the initial stages and I need a few people to pitch their ideas to a successful businessman either online or in person in the next couple of weeks.

It is NOT for broadcast at the moment but for a taster tape to sell the programme idea to a BBC channel. The investor however is genuine so it's a good opportunity if he likes the idea to get advice from someone who really knows their stuff.

If you're interested, send me a short summary of the idea by 10am on Friday 17th January and we can take it from there."

I think this is fabulous!!! Best of luck to you!

I agree and say send it as is.. But then again, my boss replied to one of my e-mails this week saying that the tone in my e-mail was absolutely unacceptable. So maybe I\'m not one to be giving advice when it comes to dealing with management.

Ha! I'm quitting my job soon, I'll have to use this for guidance :)

I agree it needs some alterations, just the typo on the word surprised though! Leave the rest as it is! :)

A new beginning for you. A new life to explore.

I`m kind of an expert (did the resignation letter about 4-5 times) because I was young (I`m 29 now) and I knew my limits. I was University Graduated working as waiter and I put a price on my 3 speaking languages (english, italian, german + some hungarian understandings) and If I didn`t have that "come one it can be fun" at my job.. I just quit. I have allways printed my RL and just put it to my boss leaving them without reply.
(It has more fun to see theyr faces when they belive got you for the end of your life).
I`m 29, working as waiter for about 4 years and have changed like 7-8 restaurants always seeking to get better. And I did because I have left Romania and now I`m working as Head waiter at 2000m in the Italian Dolomiti Sky Valey. I work 4 months / year and the other 8 I got my summer free to do whatever I like.

P.S.: Your life it`s too short to become just a small dot in this world. Everybody can do better you just need to make more practice.

Ooh, your boss sounds like a real bundle of fun - I can't understand why you would want to leave (joking)

Why dont you take 2 copies, a nice resignation letter and this one, put them in identical envelopes, shuffle them and leave it to fate?

That's similar to what I did in June except I had acrued so much vacation time that even if I had quit then I would still be owed time. I did stay until July, because it wasn't fair on the students, they had worked all year getting their quals and it wasn't their fault.

You're not going to make any changes to your letter are you? I sure wouldn't, mine was a lot more sarcastic/blunt than that. If you going to start working for yourself, what have you got to lose? Plus you'll feel a lot better by speaking your mind.

Hey, is this the same one you did for your college apps? Regardless, very good post.

Did we have the same boss? The only difference, mine was jealous because I was smarter than she. Someone who knew nothing about technology was hired to be the supervisor of a technology unit. Makes ya wonder. Good luck with the letter, I wish I had thought of it instead of quitting-with no notice :)

As if you would dare, hehe, are you really speaking to her? Thought you'd get more satisfaction telling mark to shove it? Imagine how much fun you could have with a letter to him. Wish I could jump ship with you sweets

I think you should send it as it is! :p
